Friday Wooo! (8/26)

Today, we had two main activities going on: a seminar and an activity with Mr. Ruel's class.

The seminar was all about the practice presentations yesterday. We discussed how they went, what was good, what was bad, and how to fix the bad.

The activity with Mr. Ruel's class had us going to the middle school auditorium to split up by topics. (example: the group teaching 1-1 in my class got together with the group teaching 1-1 in Mr. Ruel's class). The groups shared strategies and examples from their lessons.

YOUR REAL PRESENTATIONS START MONDAY!

If you are teaching topic 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, or 1-4, you'll present and teach on Monday.

If you are teaching topic 1-5, 1-6, 1-7, or 1-8, you'll present and teach on Tuesday.

DUE:

Your "Personal Seminar Record" worksheet with post-write on the back of it. The post write was this: "Write down two goals for yourself. One goal should be for you while your group is presenting, and the other goal is for you while other groups are presenting.

Have a good weekend!

(8/24 and 8/25)

Hey all! I'm so sorry I haven't updated the blog until right now. It's been a couple of crazy days! YAY for tomorrow being Friday...yeah? :)

Yesterday, everyone got in their groups again and made sure the lesson plan was done, the worksheet was made, 5 test questions written, and answer keys were done for it all!

Today, all of the groups paired up with another group to do a "practice lesson" to help prepare for the real presentations next week. After the groups did the practice presentation, everyone was responsible for answering two different questions--one about observing the other group and one about their own group's performance.

Due: Those two questions! You should have turned them in today. Some of you didn't. Get on that pronto, okay?

We need to be more focused in our groups, so be ready to finish your lesson tomorrow!

Project Revealed (8/22)

Today, we went over the details of our "People are Teachers" Paideia project which will be taking place over the next two weeks (starting today). I assigned the groups of four or five, and the groups started working together for the first time on a textbook scavenger hunt.

If you were absent, please see me to find out what group you're in and also get a "textbook scavenger hunt" from me to turn in later.

Due:

Guest Speaker (8/19)

Happy Friday! Today, Mrs. Boyd introduced the project that we'll be doing next week. Then, one of the upperclassmen who facilitated a group in Anti-Bias week spoke about what it was like to teach other students even though they are a student too. Everyone in the class got a chance to ask questions, and that was it!

No HW this weekend.

Teachers are People seminar day (8/18)

Today we had our first content (class) seminar! It was based on the short cartoon "Teachers are People" by Disney (made in 1952). In all three classes, we had a great discussion about what makes a teacher a good teacher and about the teaching profession in general.

NO homework. Stay tuned...

First day of school! (8/15)

Today in class, we went over the syllabus, expectations, and filled out some info sheets. We also made name tents and played a couple of "get to know you" games...why? Because if you know each other, you'll be able to participate better in the seminar this week! (See calendar below)
