Today, we did an "Anticipation Guide" for the warm-up. It had questions related to the lesson, and at the end of the lesson students answered the questions again to see if their answers changed. The lesson was from section 5-1 "Identifying Linear Functions." After the notes, students did a notebook quiz, finished their post-write from yesterday, and started doing the practice problems.

Function Seminar (1/11)
Happy Wednesday!
Today we did a seminar on functions. We talked about a few different real-world graphs--a heart monitor graph and two stock market graphs. We discussed if they were functions, why that matters, and what each graph means.
Post-Write:
Make a table of values for Graph #1. Use the dates as the x and the stock values as the y. Include the following dates:
The first of each month, the 15th of each month, and your birthday!

Ch. 4 Test Day (1/10)
Today, we did a warm-up that covered the main concepts from the test. Then, everyone took the test. After the test, students got a stock market graphing activity to do.
NOTES: No homework, BUT tomorrow, we WILL be having a NOTEBOOK QUIZ. Make sure you have your notebook with all of your warm-ups in it!
Also, tomorrow we will have a seminar on functions...be ready for some good discussion!

Review Day! (1/9)
Today, we did a warm-up, went over the homework from 4-6, got the quizzes back from Friday, and went over any of the quiz questions.
After going over all of those things, played "Mind Point Quiz Show" with clicker to review concepts from Chapter 4. In all three classes, the winning group got extra credit on their test tomorrow! All students got a review sheet so they would know what to study tonight.
Problems from the review sheet are due tomorrow.

Arithmetic Sequences (1/6)
Today, we did a warm-up that helped us review for the 4-4 quiz. Everyone took the 4-4 Quiz, and then we learned all about arithmetic sequences! The section covered was 4-6, and we talked about how to recognize an arithmetic sequence, how to find the next few terms of the sequence, and how to find a term that is really big. (Example: 3,5,7,9... Find the 36th term)
Students in 6B and 7B had time to finish the practice problems as well.
Students in 5B did not have time to finish the practice problems because of too many conversations happening during the lesson.

Scatter Plots! (1/5)
Today, we did a warm-up covering some of the questions from our last DEA test.
We went over the homework which involve plugging numbers into a function to generate ordered pairs and then graphed the ordered pairs.
The lesson today covered section 4-5: Scatter Plots! We talked about graphing them, deciding their correlation, and using trend lines to predict other values. After doing it all by hand, I showed the classes how to graph scatter plots on their graphing calculator.
Practice: page 271 #14-21
Due Tomorrow: Finish #14-21 on page 271 and be ready for your 4-4 Quiz tomorrow!

Welcome Back! Review and More (1/4)
Happy New Year everyone! Thanks for checking out the blog and for keeping up with what's going on in Algebra I.
This semester is crazy important for my classes because the state EOC test is in the beginning of May! It's really important for students to pay attention in class, take good notes, do their classwork and homework, study their notes, and participate in class. The better they do in my Algebra class, the better they will do on the Algebra EOC!
Today, we spent some time reviewing the concepts from the beginning of Chapter 4 (that we learned before exams). Since most people's brains turn to mush over break, we went through a powerpoint that hit the highlights of sections 4-1, 4-2, and 4-3.
After the review, the students worked through examples from section 4-4 to practice plugging in numbers into the x in equations, getting the y value, and graphing the (x,y) coordinates they got as answers.
DUE TOMORROW: #4 and #6 from the 4-4 Practice Worksheet
