Review Day (3/29)

Today, we did another DEA warm-up to review various Algebra topics that will be on the EOC. I checked and went over the 7-9 worksheet from yesterday. Students got their quizzes back from Tuesday, and we answered any confusing problems together. Then, students all got a study guide for their test tomorrow. There was an example or two for each objective, and we worked through those. Students will be allowed to use their notes/warm-ups/book/study guide on the test tomorrow.

Due tomorrow: The problems from the study guide: Page 532-533 #73-78, 81-85, 89-94, 104-108

(Also, be ready for your test and bring in any test corrections from the Ch. 6 test and Ch. 7A test)

Square-Square-Multiply-Double! (3/28)

Today, we did a warm-up from our last DEA assessment. Students received their old DEA booklet to start using as warm-ups. Hopefully, all of the extra practice with multiple choice questions will help prepare students for the EOC by giving them better test taking skills.

The lesson today was on section 7-9 "Special Products." Students learned two different patterns to use a short cut for certain special binomials. One was "square-square-multiply-double!" and the other was the difference of two squares.

Also, in 3A and 4A, students graded each others quizzes (no names on the quizzes...just numbers). This allowed us to go over the quiz affectively and also see mistakes to avoid on the test on Friday.

Due tomorrow: #1-18 on the 7-9 worksheet.

Remember: ALL Test Corrections are due Friday AND the Ch. 7B TEST is Friday!

Polynomial Quiz and Special Products Intro (3/27)

Today, we did another warm-up reviewing 7-6 and 7-6 (polynomials, degrees, terms, and combining like terms). Students were allowed to use their notes and warm-ups to help them on the quiz if they wanted to. The quiz took most of the rest of class period...it was kind of long for a quiz. After the quiz, students recieved a 7-9 worksheet and needed to fill in the definitions and key concepts from their book.

Tomorrow, we will learn lesson 7-9 and do more practice with 7-8. The Ch. 7B Test has been moved to Friday.

Due tomorrow: the filled in definitions and key concept box from the 7-9 worksheet

Multiplying Polynomials (3/26)

Happy Monday to you!

Today, we did a warm-up on polynomials (from sections 7-6 and 7-7). I did not pick the warm-up up, but you will be allowed to use your notes and your warm-up on the quiz tomorrow, so keep it! The lesson today was on section 7-8 "Multiplying Polynomials." Really, it wasn't anything new--we just distributed terms, used our exponent rules, and combined like terms. (3 things we've done before). Students had about 15-20 minutes to work in partners on finishing the 7-8 practice worksheet while I passed out their Ch. 7A tests, 6-6 take-home-quizzes, and progress reports.

Due tomorrow: 7-8 Worksheet and study for your 7-6/7-7 Quiz

Announcements: Below is what was printed on the bottom of each progress report:

--The Chapter 6A Test is listed as "excused" if it was counted on the 3rd nine weeks (which means it helped your grade before report cards). If you have a grade for the Ch. 6A test, it hurt your nine weeks grade so now you can do corrections. DUE by FRIDAY, March 30th.

--The Ch. 7A Test corrections are also due by Friday, March 30th.--If you have a 0 for an assignment, it means you were present when it was assigned and when it was due, and you did not turn it in.

--If you have an "incomplete" or "missing" for an assignment, you were absent from class either when it was assigned or when it was due.

--You will have another take-home quiz on sections 6-6/6-7 after Spring Break since many students did not do well on the first one. (You'll notice you received a grade for turning it in, but I did not grade it and give you a quiz grade).

--REMEMBER: I do NOT accept LATE work during the 4th nine weeks. All assignments must be turned in the day they are due (unless you are absent).

Polynomials! (3/23)

Today, we did an EOC review warm-up (multiple choice) that reviewed exponents, area, and combining like terms. The lesson today was on 7-6 and 7-7. We did an overview of polynomials, degrees, and terms. Then we talked about how to add and subtract polynomials.

Students had about 15 minutes to work in partners to finish the 7-7 worksheet.

Due MONDAY: 7-7 worksheet

Note: There will be a quiz on 7-6 and 7-7 on Tuesday next week, and the Chapter 7B test will be Thursday of next week.

Test Day! (3/22)

Today, we did a warm-up to review all of the exponent laws. I answered any last minute questions from the students before the test, and then everyone took the Ch. 7A test! It was 25 multiple choice questions. When everyone finished their test, they received a 7-6 worksheet with vocabulary words. Students defined all of the words on the worksheet and showed it to me for a grade.

For tomorrow: No hw. Bring the 7-6 worksheet back to class tomorrow for us to finish the back page.

Study it up! (3/21)

Today, we have a warm-up reviewing exponent rules while I checked the homework from yesterday. We went over the answers on the 7-5 worksheet and then I passed out the Ch. 7A study guide. We did several examples together, and then students got with a partner to finish the study guide. It was due by the end of the class period.

For tomorrow: STUDY for your TEST! You may not use your notes on your test, so you need to KNOW the exponent rules....memorize them!

Rational Exponents (3/20)

Yesterday (Tuesday), we did a warm-up reviewing scientific notation while I checked everyone's homework. We did a lesson on 7-5. All student received a guided notes page to help them take notes and then had practice problems to do on the back of the worksheet. The last 20 minutes of class, students got in groups and finished their practice problems.

Due tomorrow: 7-5 Practice Worksheet

Note: The Chapter 7A Test is Thursday! I will be tutoring Wednesday afternoon if anyone wants help before the test! :)

Exponent Laws (3/19)

Today, we did a warm-up reviewing scientific notation and negative exponents. Students turned in any work from last week that they had not turned in already. The lesson today was on sections 7-3 and 7-4 from the textbook. Students had a guided notes sheet where they could write examples on the back of the paper and the exponent laws on the front of the paper in a chart.

We talked about some different annoucements and reminders, as well. The 6-5/6-6 Take Home Quiz is due TOMORROW. Also, students need to turn in the practice work from the day (see below).

Due tomorrow: page 534 #4,6,8,9,11 and the 6-5/6-6 QUIZ

Catch-up and Re-cap (3/16)

I apologize for the lack of posts this week! I was out with a stomach virus Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday :(

I was back today, though! I went over all three sections that they had worksheets for while I was out: 6-6, 7-1, and 7-2. If students are feeling like they're still not quite getting it, they need to be ready to ask me questions on Monday and are also welcome to come to tutoring on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Due by Monday: All three practice worksheets: 6-6, 7-1, and 7-2

Linear Inequalities (3/12)

Good Monday morning to ya!

Today, we'll be doing a warm-up that reviews graphing inequalities on a number line. This will lead us into our lesson today (6-5), graphing linear inequalities. (Example: Graph y>2x-3 on a coordinate plane). Students also received a calendar mapping out our Algebra I curriculum through the months of March and April and the first week of May.

We also talked about a few announcements:

  • NO late work will be accepted this 9 weeks. You MUST turn assignments in the day they are due!

  • The EOC is in 6 weeks (not including spring break), so we are going to be going quickly through chapters 7-10 this nine weeks. (It can be done).

Last Day! (of the 3rd nine weeks) (3/8)

Hello!

Today was the last day of the third nine weeks--that meant any missing or incomplete work was due by the end of the day. In class, students worked on Apangea (http://lms.apangea.com). Apangea helps the students review Algebra and get prepared for the EOC, and it can be done on any computer with internet access! (So...use it!).

No Homework for Monday

Special Systems (3/5)

Good Monday mornin to ya!

Today, we're doing a warm-up reviewing solving systems by elimination. The lesson today involves 4 new vocabulary words and the two special cases for systems of equations. (no solution and infinite solutions).

We covered the 4 vocab words and did 3 examples together. Then, students got in partners to work on the remainder of the special systems worksheet.

A few notes:

  1. It's almost the end of the nine weeks! Students will need to turn in any missing, 0, or incomplete work by Thursday if they want the assignment grade to get on gradespeed before report cards.

  2. All students should have gotten a progress report to get signed. Be on the look out!

  3. The Chapter 6A Test covering sections 1-4 is WEDNESDAY. There will be tutoring Tuesday, so please encourage your student to go if they need help before the test!

Due Tomorrow: The FINISHED 6-4 Worksheet

Apangea and Make-Up Work (3/2)

Today was an usual day because we had the Black History Month Program during advisory and 6B. My 5B and 7B classes still met, but there were many students absent due to the program during 5B.

For the students who were here, they got a laptop to work on Apangea lessons. While they did that, I passed out any graded work I had including their most recent re-test and a progress report. Once students got their progress report, they had the option to work on Apangea or work on any missing work they had.

All missing work is due by Thursday of next week.
