Review Day #5! (4/30)

Happy-last-day-before-the-EOC!

Today was one last review day before the EOC!  We did a warm-up that was multiple choice and went over systems of equations.  We went over the previous two review sheets by having volunteers come up to the board and work out the problems.  All students got one last review sheet to do for practice (even though I'm not going to be picking it up tomorrow).

For tomorrow: NO homework.  STUDY!  Remember to get a good night's sleep tonight.

Some advice for tomorrow when taking the EOC:
  • Relax
  • Listen to directions
  • Plan your time
  • THINK about the questions
  • Use the answer choices to help you figure out the question
  • Eliminate answers when possible
  • If a question asks you to "solve," plug the answers back in!

Review Day #4 (4/27)

YAY Friday! :) Today, the warm-up reviewed mean, median, and mode.  Students turned in their homework from the night before, and we will be going over that on Monday.  We did a lesson today that was a quick overview of 9-9 (Quadratic Formula), 10-2 (Stem-and-Leaf Plots and Frequency Tables), and 10-3 (Box-and-Whisker Plots).  Students took notes on a guided notes sheet, and then for the last 20 minutes of class, students worked in partners on a review sheet for the EOC that included the topics from the lesson.

Due Monday: Review Sheet #5

Review Day 3 (4/26)

Happy Thursday!

Today, the students came in and immediately started reviewing for their quiz.  While they took their quiz, I checked off their two review sheets from yesterday.  We spent some time going over the two review sheets-- getting volunteers to come up to the board to do problems.  Everyone got a new review sheet (review sheet #4) to do for tomorrow.

Due tomorrow: 2A and 3A classes need to all of the review sheet except for the systems questions

4A needs to finish ALL of the review sheet 4

Review Day 2 (4/25)

Instead of doing a warm-up today, the students checked all of their answers from their practice EOC yesterday.  We went over some of the most missed questions, and then the students worked on the next two EOC review sheets.

Due tomorrow: BOTH completed EOC worksheets

Practice EOC (4/24)

Today we spent the class period taking a practice EOC test.  This was a full-length, 65-question test that asked questions from all of the Algebra I standards.  Students need to make sure that they bring their test and answer sheet to class tomorrow.  Most finished the practice test in class, but if they didn't, it needs to be done by tomorrow.

Due tomorrow: completed practice EOC test

Finishing, Reviewing, Graphing (4/23)

Today, we did a factoring warm-up that was multiple choice.  All of our warm-ups will be multiple choice this week in an effort to talk about test taking skills before the EOC!  The EOC is in one week and one day, so we will spend some time this week reviewing each day.  Today, students who needed to finish their Ch. 8 Test finished it, and they also all got a review sheet to work on.  There will be a review sheet for each day.  After doing the review, the students learned more about graphing quadratics on the graphing calculator.

Tomorrow, we will be taking a practice EOC test, so there will not be a new lesson.

Due tomorrow: Finished Review Sheet.  Note: There will be a quiz on types of numbers and properties on Wednesday.

Test Day (4/20)

Instead of doing a warm-up today, we went over the most needed questions from the study guide.  After any last minute questions were asked, the students took the Chapter 8 Test.  A few students did not finish, and they will get the chance to finish it on Monday.

NO homework this weekend!

Review Day! (4/19)

Yesterday was a review day!  We did a warm-up that covered how to factor each type of equation we've dealt with and went over the homework from the night before.  Every student got a study guide with practice questions and had about 20-30 minutes to work in partners on the study guide.

Due Friday: Completed Study Guide

PREPARE for your Chapter 8 Test!

Special Products (4/18)

Today, we did a warm-up that was an EOC review of how to factor ax^2 + bx + c. The lesson today was over sections 8-5 and 8-6. This was a review of factoring all the different types of polynomials and also a review of special products. All students received a worksheet to help them takes notes and also with problems on the back.

Due tomorrow: 8-5/8-6 worksheet #1-12

Try! Try! Try again! (4/17)

Yesterday, we did a warm-up reviewing how to solve equations that need to be factored. The lesson was on section 8-4, factoring ax^2 + bx + c. I'm sorry I did not update yesterday! Anti-Bias week has been great, but it's thrown off my schedule! :)

Due Wednesday: EVENS on the 8-4 worksheet

Solving equations by factoring (4/16)

Today, we did a warm-up reviewing how to factor trinomials. There was no homework to collect, so we jumped straight into our lesson after that. I combined skills from 8-2 and 8-3 with section 9-6. We basically still had to factor, but the expressions were set equal to zero so we could solve.

Due tomorrow: 8-3/9-6 worksheet

For 2A,3A: Odds except 11,19,21,23

For 4A: #1-10, 13, 17, and 22

Quiz on GCF (4/13)

Today, we did another review warm-up over GCF stuff. I answered any questions the students had, and then they took a quiz on 8-1 and 8-2. With any of the remaining time, we went over homework answers.

NO Homework This Weekend!

Smiley-Face-Bob (4/12)

Sounds silly, right? Smiley-Face-Bob? Well, it's a new trick for checking your work when you factor trinomials! Today, we did a warm-up reviewing factoring by pulling out the GCF. Then, the lesson was on section 8-3 "Factoring Trinomials." Students filled out a notes page with examples and directions for how to do the problems, and then students worked in partners on finishing the worksheet on the back.

Due tomorrow: #1-24 on the 8-3 worksheet

DON'T FORGET! Tomorrow, we have a quiz on 8-1 and 8-2.

Factoring with GCF (4/11)

Yesterday, we did a warm-up that was a combination of DEA booklet questions and questions written on the board. All of them were related to pulling the GCF out of a polynomial. We finished lesson 8-2 by doing more examples. In 2A and 3A, students then practiced their skills by doing page 555 #2,4,6,12,16,18,20. In 4A, we moved on to introduce section 8-3.

Due Thursday: For 2A and 3A: page 555 #2,4,6,12,16,18,20

For 4A: none

Factors, GCF, and Factor by GCF (4/10)

Today, we started off the day with a DEA warm-up reviewing skills for the EOC. Students all received a guided notes page that helped them take notes on today's lesson, section 8-1 and 8-2 of their textbook. We did not quite finish section 8-2, so we will conclude that and introduce 8-3 tomorrow. There were several practice questions on the back of the worksheet that students need to finish for tomorrow.

Due tomorrow: All of section 8-1 on the worksheet and #1-6 of the 8-2 section of the worksheet
