The beginning of Chapter 4 (11/30)

Today, students who did not finish their test yesterday had a chance to finish it at the beginning of class.

We did an EOC warm-up that both review concepts and introduced concepts. The lesson today came from section 4-1 in the text book. It was all about "Graphing Relations," mostly matching graphs to particular situations, drawing a graph to model a situation, and writing a situation that matches a graph.

The students got a worksheet 4-1 Practice B and C that most of them completed with their partner in class.

Due tomorrow:

The finished worksheet and

Chapter 3 Review (11/28)

Welcome back from Thanksgiving break! I hope everyone's break was lovely!

Today, we reviewed what we've been doing the past two weeks--solving and graphing inequalities a.k.a. Chapter 3. The chapter 3 test is TOMORROW so we spent today going over all the types of problems that could be on the test.

We did a warm-up that reviewed section 3-7 and then went over the 3-7 homework. After filling out a graphic organizer to figure out who are classroom partners will be, we got in partners to work on the chapter 3 study guide.

For tomorrow: STUDY for the TEST! Finish the questions on the study guide if you didn't finish in class. (see below)

3-7 "Solving Absolute Value Inequalities" (11/22)

Today, we finished chapter 3!

We did a warm-up that reviews solving equations with an absolute value sign, went over the warm-up, and went over the homework. The lesson today was focused on section 3-7 from the book. After doing about 6-7 examples, the students had a chance to practice the skills by doing the problems below.

Due Monday (after break):

3-6: Solving Compound Inequalities (11/21)

Happy Monday!

Today, we did an EOC warm-up while I checked the homework from Friday. After going over the homework, we worked out a couple of word problems from section 3-5 for practice.

The lesson today covered section 3-6 which is about solving compound inequalities. "And" and "or" inequalities are solved the same way that the normal ones are solved, but there are two parts to them. After doing the lesson, the students partnered up and worked on the questions below.

3-4/3-5 "Solving Multi-Step Inequalities"

Today, we did an EOC warm-up with 4 multiple choice questions. One question was similar to our lesson today, two questions were review, and one question was a new thing you had to think about. We didn't have any homework last night, so after the warm-up, we jumped straight into our lesson.

The lesson covered sections 3-4 and 3-5 which were both about solving multi-step inequalities. We did many examples of all different types of inequality problems. There was some time at the end to do some practice-- page 199 #14,16,20,21,22, and 26.

Due Monday: the above classwork (page 199 #14,16,20,21,22, and 26)

Chapter 3A Test Day (3-1 through 3-3) - 11/17

Today, we did a warm-up to review some of the concepts from this chapter. Students were allowed to ask Mrs. Boyd any questions about their review homework last night or about the test in general. After taking the test, Mrs. Boyd passed out individual progress reports so students could see what was going on with their grade. For the remainder of the time, students did make-up work.

NO homework! (unless you want to turn in test corrections tomorrow)

3-3 and Review (11/16)

Today, we did a warm-up, went over the work from yesterday, and learned lesson 3-3. Section 3-3 from the book is about solving one step inequalities by using multiplication and division. With anytime we had left, we did some review for the test tomorrow.

Due tomorrow: review problems-- page 189 #5-25

STUDY for your TEST tomorrow! (It covers 3-1, 3-2, and 3-3).

Re-Learning (11/15)

Today, we had a notebook quiz that asked for things from chapter 2.

They needed to staple together the following 5 things:

›2-10 notes (part A or part B) from 11/2 or 11/3
›2-9 notes from 10/31
›Warm-Ups from 10/31, 11/3, 11/8

After the notebook quiz, I passed back the 3-1,3-2 Quizzes that were done on Friday. Those were open-book, open-note, partner quizzes, and I was not pleased (overall) with the grades.

After going over the quiz, we had a short reminder lesson on some of the things that were commonly missed on the quiz, and then the students had a chance to put that into practice by doing #22-33 on page 173 and #16-23 on page 180. Those problems were done and due by the end of the class period.

Due tomorrow: page 180 #25 and #31

NOTE: Due to the low quiz grades, the 3-1 through 3-3 TEST has been moved to Thursday.

Friday/Monday Quiz and Test Days (11/11 and 11/14)

I was not able to be at school the entire day on Friday, so I apologize for not getting the blog post up!

On Friday, students did a partner quiz that covered section 3-1 and 3-2. The students also got copies of their DEA test results from the first test (the same report that was stapled to their report card). Students had to write down any SPI (State Performance Indicators) numbers that were in the red or yellow-- basic or below basic. Starting on page TN5 in the beginning of the Algebra book, the book lists the specific sentence for each SPI. The students needed to write down the sentence for each SPI that was basic or below.

Today, the students took the second DEA test.

Due tomorrow: SPI's written down from the report

NOTE: A TEST on sections 3-1 through 3-3 is Wednesday! (you'll get a study guide tomorrow)

Finishing/Starting (11/10)

Today, the students who did not finish their test got a chance to finish it today. After that, we started Chapter 3 by doing a lesson over 3-1 and 3-2. The two sections were pretty easy and very related, so it was a piece of cake to learn them together.

With any time left, the students did some practice work for each section. (see below)

NOTE: Tomorrow we are going to have a partner quiz on section 3-1 and 3-2. It is open-book, open-note, and you can work with a partner. (not working with anyone else). Make sure to do the practice problems so you're ready!

Due tomorrow: page 173 #6,8,9,10 and page 179 #1,3,4,5

Test Day (11/9)

Today, the students took the first test of the nine weeks! It covered 2-9 through 2-11 and weighted averages. We took about 15 minutes in the beginning of class to review any concepts students had questions about, and then the students took the test.

No Homework!

Practice makes Perfect (Review day--11/8)

Today was a review day! We did a warm-up that had example questions from the test tomorrow (solving an equation, a commission problem, and a % problem). We went over the homework from 2-11 to review the percent of change problems. The rest of the class period was spent in groups while they worked on their review sheet. The review sheet (and all listed problems) are due tomorrow.

Please STUDY for your test tomorrow by finishing the review sheet, re-working examples from your notes, and going over examples from the book. The test covers section 2-9, 2-10, 2-11, and weighted averages.

DUE TOMORROW: All of the questions listed on the review sheet need to be completed. (see gradespeed for an attached version of the review sheet if you need one).

Percent Change (11/7)

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone's weekend was wonderful!

Today, we'll do a warm-up covering some of the topics of percent that we covered last week. (We'll make sure you don't forget what you've learned!) During the warm-up, I will check the homework from the weekend--which was the finish the front page (#1-6) of the Weighted Average Activity from Friday. We're going to go over it as well.

The lesson today is from section 2-11 in the Algebra textbook, and it covers percent increase and percent decrease. We'll learn what those are and how to apply them to everyday life (sales, marking up something wholesale to make a profit, discounts, tax, etc).

We also filled out "parner clocks" so we could be more organized in our grouping for practice work. After doing that, everyone got together with their 2 o'clock partner to do the practice problems below.

Due tomorrow: finish the practice problems from class-- page 147 #2,4,6,7,8,10,12,32,34

NOTE: Remember the test on 2-9, 2-10, 2-11, and weighted averages is WEDNESDAY!

Interest, Tips, and a Quiz (11/3)

Today, all my classes took a quiz on 2-9 (basic % concepts). They did a warm-up to refresh their memory on that before they took the quiz, and after the quiz, we went over the homework that covered commission from yesterday.

In the time that was left, we finished section 2-10 by talking about simple interest, tips, and estimating with %. In some classes, there was time to do some practice problems with those concepts.

Applications of % (part A)

I hope everyone had a lovely day off yesterday! I really enjoyed talking with some of your parents for parent conference day!

Today, we did a warm-up reviewing the part/whole = %/100 thing. TOMORROW there is a QUIZ on section 2-9. So, we went over the homework from 2-9 to make sure all of that was clear. We also started 2-10, which is about applications of percent.
